BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THIS FURNITURE SET:

The furniture set was purchased by my father in Singapore in either late 1989 or early 1990. Our family lived in Singapore for approximately 4-5 years. The furniture set was being sold at a Chinese government cultural exhibition display being held in Singapore and was purchased there for approximately 100,000 Singapore Dollars (SGD) at the time. Apparently this furniture set is only one of two made in the world (the other set being located somewhere in China). It is hand carved (hand-built) of Rosewood (a very thick, sturdy wood). Many of the carvings on the furniture depict Chinese mythological dragons. The cushions on the chairs and large sofa are upholstered in raw Chinese silk (again the dragon is a common theme here). The cushions did not originally come with the furniture, they were purchased separately but are included with the sale. All the pieces in this set are embedded with thick slabs of a rare kind of marble or stone (we are unsure as to what kind of stone this is, however).

CONDITION OF THIS FURNITURE SET:

This furniture set has been maintained in excellent condition. The set has rarely been used by guests to sit on and has largely been kept for decorative purposes. We had moved our residence from Singapore to Pakistan in the mid 1990's and had this furniture professionally transported to our new home. The wood and embedded marble still retain much of their original shine.

WHY WE WANT TO SELL THIS FURNITURE SET:

We want to sell this furniture set because we are in the process of moving to a new house (possibly overseas) and do not want to retain the added burden of taking care of it again or transporting it (even though the set is one of our prized possessions). The furniture set is very heavy and is difficult to move from place to place without the help of a professional transporter.

AGE AND ORIGIN OF THIS FURNITURE SET:

I apologize for not having much information about the approximate age, period of Chinese history, or precise part of China that this furniture set comes from. The business partners that my father used to work with who would have had more information about this set are no longer in contact with us as the set was purchased more than 20 years ago. ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THIS FURNITURE SET WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED (FROM APPRAISERS, COLLECTORS, EXPERTS ETC.)

The asking price for this set is a conservative estimate based on price appreciation and the relative dollar value (real value) of the set in today's terms.
